adjusting ups quotes

Is there a best practice to adjust (add) shipping cost per product in addition to the upsxml shipping rates that come in? For example, add 2 dollars to whatever shipping ups shipping rate comes in for that product. I thought if I could use individual shipping prices 1.0 and UPSXML together, that I would achieve something like that, but the sad news is that when both are activated, the individual shipping does not show up at all.

Has anyone come across this situation?

You can have it add a dollar amount or percent but you will get really accurate quotes as long as your product data is good. You can add a few percent on to compensate for CC charges I guess but that's up to you. Or, if you want to do a box charge add a dollar amount.
