ups shipping calculator

this may seem like a stupid question but i was just curious if there is a shipping calculator already built into oscmax that just needs to be enabled? if not do you guys recommend one that works with the latest version of oscmax? I'm using ups as my main shipping provider.

Also, if I enable Fedex shipping with UPS XML, will that mess up anything in the shipping process? Sorry if that sounds dumb.

If you enable mutli shipping option for the same zone(s) then it will show the customer the options.
[*] UPS 12.00
[ ] FesEx 15.00
etc....

can the customer get a ups quote on the total order or each individual item if shipped in separate boxes, all before completing the order?

In other words have a text field box available for them to put in their zip code - hit calculate and a quote will pop up?

I've seen a contrib for that in the main forum and it is probably a good idea I just haven't tried yet. Seems like many big sites have that ability.

johnw I think I found what you meant - osCommerce: Estimated Shipping Costs - it works great. You can get an estimate on your shopping cart before going through the purchase process.

I think that's it, but I had forgotten about it until I read your post. So, you installed it then? Does it work with UPSXML?

It's working well with upsxml so far. I didn't test it on my live site yet, but I have it running on a virtual host site with no problems. so far so good!

hmm...seems as though it doesn't work with order editor when ajax is turned on. I wish I was smart enough to know what the heck is going on when ajax is enabled.

By "it" I'm assuming you mean UPSXML and not the shipping estimator contribution. The order editor doesn't give me UPSXML quotes either but I don't use rely on order editor to get shipping quotes. However, you can check out the order editor contribution page and support thread because I do remember reading that there is a glitch in it related to the shipping module. If I remember correctly I had to uninstall or turn off something related to free shipping to get order editor to work at all. I really need to take more notes. It does give a UPS quote though on order editor.

It appears that the contribution doesn't work with upsxml on my live site. When I am not signed in and try to get an estimate, it doesn't return anything. and when I do sign in I get a shipping address error. Have you had any luck with this?

I wonder if the shipping contribution is simply outdated with the new upsxml technology.
