UPS XML not working

Not having much luck with modules. I'll post about fedex in the proper forum. So I can not get the UPS XML module to work. The simpler UPS module does work. The XML version returns the following message after about a 60 second hang

2013 - Lost connection to MySQL server during query

select code, title, symbol_left, symbol_right, decimal_point, thousands_point, decimal_places, value from currencies

I have no clue how to fix this.

My files are at www.essential-stuff-store.com /catalog . I'd like to go live if I can get UPS or fedex working.
