Thread: Meta tag customization

    Default Meta tag customization

    In Admin > Languages > English > Meta Keywords I have entered "test"

    This yields the following meta keywords and description on my (randomly selected) Cart Contents page:

    <meta name="keywords" content="testCart Contents" />
    <meta name="description" content="Pets In Stone : Cart Contents - test" />

    I have two problems:

    1: How would I manually set a site-wide description suffix to replace "test" while leaving "test" as the keywords? Basically, I'd like a site-wide meta description different than my site-wide meta keywords.

    2. How can I turn the meta keywords from "testCart Contents" into "Cart Contents - test"?

    I know the answers to both are in includes/meta_tags.php but I am having absolutely no luck at my trial and error.

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

    I would start by putting something in Admin -> Localisation -> Languages -> Edit -> Meta Keywords.

    Putting "test" there yielded the results above.

    Line: 37
    define
    ('WEB_SITE_KEYWORDS', $mt_keywords_string . $mt_extra_keywords);

    Where $mt_keywords_string is the names of your categories
    and $mt_extra_keywords are the ones you have put in your language.

    This WEB_SITE_KEYWORDS is then included in each of the case statements.

    So if you want to put them after the page TITLE then change:
    define('META_TAG_KEYWORDS', WEB_SITE_KEYWORDS . NAVBAR_TITLE_1);

    to:
    define('META_TAG_KEYWORDS',NAVBAR_TITLE_1 . WEB_SITE_KEYWORDS);

    In each case where you want to change it.

    Thanks for the tip. Are all of the site's pages' keywords set in this file? I cannot find the case, for example, that sets it for shopping_cart.php.

    Not sure you would want Google indexing shopping_cart.php anyway? This belongs to a customer and when a link is formed it would link to the session of the user ...

    Is it possible to have the index page's meta description be different than my site-wide meta keywords?

    It's been this way for years with most OSCommerce based carts, even Zen Cart does it funky like that and I have no idea why. I mean, meta descriptions should be different from keywords, but with oscommerce carts it's not. Anyone have any ideas why?

    My site shows in google with a list of words:

    Pets In Stone : - pet cremation urn, pet marker, pet memorial, pet urn, marble urn, pet grave marker, laser urn, wood urn, cremation urn, pet grave stone.

    Whereas other sites show up with complete thoughts:

    will custom-engrave any rock to serve as an enduring reminder of your furry or feathered friend. Compassion is reflected in the attractive, lasting ...

    Offers pet urns, pet memorial garden stones, pet grave marker, pet stone marker, pet memorial plaque. Celebrate the lives of those who gave you so ...

    Say it in Stones, A Pet Memorial company making custom river stone pet memorials for 20 years. Visit our website or Call ...

    Sells pet memorial stones engraved with name and dates.

    Sells engraved stone burial markers and memorials. Includes photographs and testimonials.

    I'm wondering if the "complete thoughts" (meta descriptions) are more likable by Google than the word list (meta keywords).
