paypal question

This is my first post, so go easy on me......

I'm trying to do the integration with paypal. From the Paypal website, it made it seem like that if you had a paypal compatible shopping cart, it would process the CCs in the back ground. However, I just did my first test a while ago and it left my site and went to the paypal generic checkout screen. I filled everything out and submitted it. It took the payment, but didnt send me back to my site.

Here are the problems. I didnt want to leave my site. i want to cards processed on my site behind the scenes. If the people register on my site with all their personal info, I dont want them to have to register again on paypals site. Do I have to do the PayPal Website Payments Pro that costs $20 a month as opposed to the standard plan I signed up for? Is it even possible to do this?

You are incorrect in your first assumption.

The paypal IPN module takes them to the paypal checkout screen. You will need to add the Payments Pro module:
osCommerce: PayPal Website Payments Pro
