product not dissappearing and still able to buy once purchased

im really sorry if i have put this int he wrong thread but im having some major problems and my guy who does this for me has gone away.

firstly im not even sure what model of oscommerce i have so im sure that is entirely useless inorder to help me hehe

when you go to buy soemthing that all goes through fine but the product is still left there and so if someone wants to buy it all that comes up is a message that says something like we are currently out of stock of this item but please buy anyway and we will send when we have re stocked (something to that effect anyway) but that is no good to me when im selling one off vintage items!

the guy that usually helps me i understand can change this text however can someone please tell me if there is a way to get the continue button to go away? as as a girl ,we tend to just ignore messages like that and carry on until it stops us. so thus meaning it would still take them to payment. i mean a nice little message is all very well and good but unless it physically stops you then thats no help at all.

my website has technically launched today so me and my sister are in a bit of a panic so if anyone could help us we would really appreciate it- even if just to say...there is a way of doing this its not the be all end all! becasue for now we can take the product off manually

What you need to do is turn on stock tracking and then disallow purchase of out of stock items.

In your admin panel go to :

Configuration > Stock

Then set Check Stock Level to true.

Then set Allow Checkout to false.

Now it will not let customers checkout with out of stock items.
