Error after modifying english.php file

I have set up a new shopping cart in public_html/catalog so that I can modify it to eventually upgrade from our current shopping cart which is the version prior to 2.2.

I opened the public_html/catalog/includes/languages/english.php file and made one simple change to the text, I added 2.2 on to the end of powered by oscommerce link and saved it. I didn't change anything else and got the error below. I changed it back to how the file was originally and still get this error. I don't know what to do to correct this because other than what I just said, I haven't done a thing with the shopping cart.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: efine() in /home/wwwnlall/public_html/catalog/includes/languages/english.php on line 303

Your help would be much appreciated.

And what did you have on line 303 of english.php?

Make sure you escape all '

ie:

should be:
Mike\'s
