Adding new textfield in checkout pages

i want to add a new textfield for the customer to put a purchase order number in one of the checkout pages. i alrdy figured out how to make the field but passing the value along the pages, displaying in the checkout_confirmation page and emailing it is a different story.

can someone tell me which coding and/or files applies to those three problems i have? i tried to duplicate all the coding that has to do with the comment box and just changing the comments variables to Order_Number instead but still nada. any help on this would be greatly appreciated

I just posted a question concering this. A Purchase Order is a regular ordering procedure with most companies. I moved my client from XCart to OSCMax but have come to find there is no provision for a PO.
