Default Able to redeem gift voucher as guest

    Hi,

I am testing the gift voucher and when redeeming the voucher from an email I never get to the "redeem page" it simply redeems it to whoever is online at that time whether it's a guest or a logged in user.

Any ideas. Did I not upload something right? Everything else seems to be working correctly.

    Thanks

    Rick

What version of osc? What version of GV?

If you click the link in the email, it should take you to the cart, and it automatically redeems the voucher. Then, if you are not logged it, if you log in, the GV should be added to your account.

Does that make sense? Probably not...its late

    Hi,

I am using the oscms2-max, the original download. I sent a voucher to myself (another one of my email accounts but it had not osc account) I clicked the link and it redeemed to guest since there was no one logged in. I did not try logging in or creating and account at that point.

I went into my phpadmin and just deleted the information. I will go back and try it and see if it works the way you said it should. But even if it does this can be very confusing for a person who has not yet created an account within osc.

Thanks for your time and efforts.

    Hi,

You were correct. (as I assumed you would be) But I still think this is somewhat confusing for a new customer or even an existing customer. Shouldn't the process force them to login or create an account first so they see that it is actually being added to their account?

I am somewhat familiar with osc and I was confused about the whole thing.

I know this mod was not yours but you are certainly qualified to hack it. Just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks for your quick reply and efforts.

    Hi Micheal,
I don't know if you had received the email that I had sent you on 8/15/03 about this, but what is happening is that when you click on the email link it does take you to the redeem.php which states that "You have Successfully redeem a GiftsVoucher......" but the funds are not actually deposited into any account unless the customer either logs into their account or create an account for new customer. However there is no way for the customer to know this, and as you can see even people familar with OSC are confuse about this. What I have done is that I have re-written the redeem.php to include instructions to the customer on the steps required when they get to the redeem page. I had included the re-written redeem.php in the email I sent you in case you might had wanted to use it. If you didn't get the email and would like me to email it back to you let me know and I'll re-send it to you.

Jose, I have your email, I should have looked at it closer...

I will get some of those changes incorporated. I appreciate your help with this.

The directions in the faq.php actually say what I had suggested.

    1. By clicking on the link contained within the email for this express purpose. This will take you to the store\'s Redeem Voucher page. You will then be requested to create an account, before the Gift Voucher is validated and placed in your Gift Voucher Account.
Maybe he already has the code for this done???

True but as you and I have done, we fail to read the FAQ before and after redeeming the voucher, (and that's after I re-wrote the FAQ because of spelling errors. ). How many other people do you think will do the same and will be contacting the store owner because of what they preconceive to be an error or at worst how many lost sale would you have because of their failer to read the FAQ. Which is why I suggest putting simple instructions on the redeem page itself. I'm a firm believer of the KISS system. (Keep It Simple Stupie)
