How can I make new css class for INPUT TYPE="TEXT"

I'm new in PHP and maybe is a stupid question, but please, help me!

I put a background color on my TEXTAREA fields
and I want to do the same with the input type="text" fields..

In stylesheet.css: when I put a background-color for INPUT,
my transparent pictures for submit forms become with background too.
BODY{background-color} is different of my INPUT{background-color} and this way the pages become ugly.

I don't know how to define s new class for type="text" fields only?
