    Default Kinder, gentler OSCommerce

Hi, I searched for these topics, but couldnt find answers so here goes:

    1) How do I disable the "CART" feature of OSC? My customer simply wants to be able to display a list of his inventory but wants to handle ordering and payments either via email or by phone....in other words no electronic order....hence how do I disable the "Add to cart", "View Cart", "Checkout" functionality?

    2) How do images work if a product does not have an image? Does OSC default to a category image or is it an expectation of the system that each product has an image?

    TIA,

    Happy

tell your client this- Whats the point if of E-Commerce if they cant order online?
What you need to do is figure out what the real issue here is. Does he not want to buy ssl? Too bad, that is the ecommerce standard. Does he not want a merchant account? OsCommerce can encrypt the credit card info and email it to him, he can print the email and key it in at his store on his credit card terminal. It would be stupid not to accept payment online. Often people buy online because they dont want to talk to people or it is more convienint to do if from their computer than on the phone.

As for images, you must have an image. If you dont, re-upload the category image, just change the name of the file before you upload. Or upload a blank image. (make a clear gif 1px x 1px and save it).

I can provide tech support for osCommerce- $20/hr. I am also very business minded and can help you work through client issues- often they dont know what they really want, and won't tell you, you have to figure out where they are coming from and ask "WHY is he saying this" before you can address the issue.

auradev - soliciting business on the forums is not acceptable. Please do not do it again.

Happy, auradev has a point about using osCommerce. It is overkill if all you want is a gallery script to display inventory. Of course, you can still use oscommerce, but you will have to remove all the code that relates to the account and checkout sections in default.php, column_right.php, header.php, and a couple other files. There are a lot of files to edit, since the whole point of osCommerce is to keep account info, inventory and check out!

My customer runs his business out of his house, it's not a store, he does not have a credit card account (nor does he want to get one or have to deal with Credit Card clearing companies).

He has minimal inventory on hand and most of the time maintains a virtual inventory (agreements with the manufacturer to deliver within a given timeframe).

He does however offer specials, have to deal with exchange rates, and other features which make OSC attractive.

IMHO his requirements are not out too lunch, but I understand where you're coming from.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Happy,

Looking at the clients requirements, you really do not have to disable the checkout functions, but rather only use the COD function, and modify the checkout success page to tell the customer that you will be calling them to process the order.

Or if you really don't want to use the checkout, remove the checkout links in the product pages, and remove the "shopping cart" box from column_right.php.

    Have fun hacking!
