Default Adding extra choices at checkout

Hi there

I am building an oscommerce website for somebody.

Some of their products are ideal as gifts - they want the site to have functionality that lets the customer pick whether they want a gift card & personal message attached to their order, when at the checkout, just prior to paying.

They dont want this option on the product page (e.g. as an attribute) - but instead at the final checkout stage, because you wouldnt have a gift card for every product in your order, just the final order as a whole.

Can this be achieved? It would basically have to add a small amount to the total order as they'd want the gift card, and give you a box to write the message in.

I wouldnt know what to search for as a contribution, if anyone has implemented one that achieves the above please let me know.

Or if anyone can propose a logical way around this request that'd be great also!

Many thanks,
David

I cant use the extra comments box as this will already be used for extra comments e.g. post to back door etc.

It basically needs to display order summary and then give option of "would you like to add gift card for £1.50" and a box for the message.

But, so far, not found any relevant contribs.

Option Type Attrib

Did you search this forum? There is same question/answer 3 or 5 time in the last MONTH or so.

Top 3 finds for "text input boxes"

Also searching "text input feilds" works with simular results

Good Luck

BTW if you get osCMax 2.0 - it already has it included!

See : http://oscdox.com/index.php?name=PNp...xt+input+field

Good Luck!

Hi David

If jpf's suggestions don't suit, why not just create your gift card as a priced product? That way, in Admin, you could simply cross-sell to it from any appropriate product and if you added a text input field, or any other suitable option, it would allow for the gift card to be personalised. It would also enable you to show an example of one, which may help clinch the sale.

Hope this helps.

If you ever find a good solution please post back, because I too reckon the 'at checkout' option would still be a useful feature to have.

Me personally - card might be one to personalised on a each basis.... EG: Mother day....One to the wife...another to my Mom and yet another to Mother in law and yet another from your KIDS to each "grandparents"

Can't say for ALL "Love from the Smith Family..." Or "With love from your Snookums..." or some other corny phrase that many people use.

Yet I could see say X-Max cards might be all the same.....

It would be nice to be able to do both.... Ability to add TWO lines - one on a per item (single) and another globally for the WHOLE order.

The ONLY way for a WHOLE order is to copy the "Order Comment" fuctions and call it say "Common Order Greeting" - At the SAME time make one for "Delivery Info" for that "back/sidedoor/3rd appartment on the upper floor leftside (ya know - the green building)/press the button for the custodian for access-say it is for Sara " type of thing....

Hi jpf, i agree it must be annoying for the same questions to be posted but i did search for contribs, but they were all product level, was just curious to see if something was out there for an overall order at checkout stage. I'd totally go along with one of those contribs if the store was a personalised gift/card site overall.

I like your thinking there at reproducing the " delivery info" box twice so you can enter a message for the whole order - and still give the courier delivery instructions as well.

However with 2 text entry boxes instead of the standard 1 it still wouldnt alter the order total automatically, would it? If the customer wants a gift card its an extra £1.50 on top of your order. Would there be a way of linking the text box to the checkout total?

e.g. if they fill in the message box the checkout picks up the fact that they are choosing to have a gift card and adds the right amount to the order.

The client isnt keen on having it as a product as there's only 1 card to pick, no different styles. Plus its a topiary shop and none of the normal products require any data input - 1 card is only a small part of the whole shop.

But i do like the cross sell idea as backup - i.e. add it to all products as a kind of "If you want to send a gift card with your order, add this" sort of a deal. Then make it clear that you only need to add 1 gift card to the whole order. This will probably be what i elect to do if the checkout stage concept is too tricky.
