Default Losing ability to view webpage when I edit php files

OK, I am new to OScommerce but have programmed before. Here is my problem: I have the default OSCommerce webpage created after install. I see it fine. I now want to edit some of the fields for cutomization of the webpage. As soon as I open a file for edit (such as the english.php file) and save I cannot view the OScommerce webpage anymore. Of course I am making minor changes and want to visually see the changes on the webpage. The webpage does not display anything, not even errors.

I am sure I am doing something wrong or am missing a step.

thanks for any help!

Default Clear cache and work on file offline

A good discipline is to offload the file you are editing, copy it to your computer offline, rename it to english071405.php, then reupload. You can either edit this file or the main english.php.

This will prevent you from making any errors BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP.

We download the file, then open that file and edit it. Rename the one on the server using the date, then upload the edited one.

Clear cache to dump the old pages and refresh to see changes.

Hope this works.
