Default RE: oscmax and contributions

hi Adil

Yes you can use osc contribs with oscmax, but they often need careful tailoring. This is because the template system is completely different, and also there are already contribs added into OscMax that can cause conflict with any new contribs added. First of all you need to look at which files your new contrib affects. Then you can do a couple of things... you can check if the file is the same in Oscmax and vanilla Osc, if so, your changes should be ok. If it is different, you need to go through line by line and see what changes are being made to see whether they conflict with the adjustments already there from other contribs. Then you may need to modify either the placement of the code.. hack the code itself, or check to see if it needs to go in a different file to the one stated in the contrib (maybe a .tpl file)

Having said all that, often they are very simple to apply, so don't be scared, don't do it on a live site, and backup before you do it. There are always people here to help, and often where you have gone wrong, so have others, so a search here or on the oscommerce site often will give you some ideas on how to correct errors.

cheers
Kim
