Modifying the Buy Now Button column

Could anyone possibly tell me what to fix (or syntax to add) in product_listing.php to represent the following.

I want to keep Buy Now for items in stock
I want any item that is <1 to be shown with a Special Order button in place of buy now button.
I want specific items that are on back order to be shown with a Back Order Button

I want the customer to complete the purchase regardless. I saw this system in place on

http://www.amainhobbies.com/ and that is exactly the type of display I need. Please help!!!!!!

Do I have to add an additional field to the db indicating stock status?

Time is of the essence so I would appreciate a response, even if it is laughter.
