order statuses mismatch (pending vs cancelled)

Hey everyone, I'm using osCommerce 2.2-MS2, modded with some basic contribs, gift/voucher, bulk discount (by chemo), nothing special..

every now and then, and it seems more often now, pending orders will show up as CANCELLED when you view 'all orders". Upon actually clicking on the order to view details, you'll notice the order is still PENDING, and has not updated to CANCELLED.

It seems as if when I view orders, I'll see it as cancelled, but the order hasn't really been updated as cancelled in order status, which really concerns me

its an annoying bug, and we've created a db fix script that'll check the current status vs the last known status in the db, and if they don't match, it'll resort to returning it to the previous status.. but i'm wondering if anyone has experienced this problem..

I've not 100% eliminated any payment method, because I use payflow pro and paypal ipn, and this incorrect status occurs with both types of orders.

I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem and if not, if anyone can possibly help me troubleshoot what could be wrong.. this is a serious detriment to progress..
