Blank column on right hand side of product listing

I'm trying to get rid of the blank space as marked (in yellow) in my attached screenshot. I have already removed the right column from the code but am left with this blank area.

Basically, I want the product listing to fill the space available

Any ideas?

Hi,
First of all I'm a total noob at this but
Back up before you mess with stuff
Have you tried playing around with the aabox template?
It kinda simplifies the layout process.
In main_page.tpl.php if you check out the comments it should give you the general idea
I have used it on my own, kinda minimalist site http://www.crazygrow.net

And of course you really should check out the osCDox Guide its pretty cool...
