    Default Modify Pages?

I am trying to modify some Pages but I get this message across the top of the page each time:

Error: I can not write to this directory. Please set the right user permissions on: /home/virtual/site27/fst/var/www/html/oscommerce//includes/boxes

How do I correct this so that I can modify these Pages??

Also I would like to know how do I make new Pages other than the ones that are there?

    Thanks for any help.

    Default Thanks

    Ok thanks.
The only problem is I am the person who only writes to this site as I am the one that has designed the pages.

Unless you are meaning I need to get permission from oscommerce to modify one of their main pages.

No, each user on the webserver has specific permission as to what the user can and cannot do, for example, when you installed oscommerce, you were asked to remove the write permissions for configure.php files, in the same way you need to grant permissions to write for other files...

whats ur URL to the site, i can take a look at the error on the site itself, i m not sure what OS you're running this site on, if its *nix, use the ls commands to find out what the user permissions are....

    My site URL is:

    www.milmod-hobbies.com/oscommerce

It never use to be there.

Also for some reason all the boxes have moved in instead of being to the sides. Dont know if you can guide me in the right direction here.

Are you trying to modify the pages throught the Admin tool?

If so I wouldn't do it there.. Use notePad or some editor and the FTP the files back up..

Much safer way of doing things.. ALways make backups..

    Just my two sence..

    Default Thanks Craig

No I dont use Admin Tool, Im currently using Smart FTP to both download and upload files to Admin, once I download them I back them up before editing them.

The problem I am having is that for some reson inSmart FTP I am unable to change the Permission on each file. they are for some reason set at 777, I am currently trying to save them as 444 so that they can be edited etc.

    Sorry never used Smart FTP..

You may want to try another FTP client like WSFTP..

I have had similar problems in the past when using CUTEFTP..

If another FTP client doesn't work then its probably a setting on the server or Your logon to the ftp site doesn't have the correct permissions.

Who's the owner of the file your trying to change? Smart FTP will do it, but not if you aren't the proper user. I don't know how it was installed or what your setup is, but it's possible the files installed are owned by "root", and when you're logged in, you're logged in as "whoever". If that's the case, you'll have to get deeper into it and figure out how to change the file ownership or either login as the file owner and make the changes. Not sure if your on a MS or Linux box, so I can't advise.

    Default Im the owner

    Hi Goaskmom

Im the owner of the site I have created and my web sever uses Linux.

The files I am trying to edit are admin files.

I can edit my own files (the ones I have created) not a problem, but the ones that were originally with the program (oscommerce) when I started wont allow me to edit them unless I change the Permission.

Sorry for being so confusing but thats what it is to me
