Default Authentication for admin: Which one to use?

There are quite a few contributions available to protect the admin side by using a username and password. Which one do you think is the best? I don't own a dedicated server so I guess that I won't be able to use the .htaccess method?

Regards,
Irfan

Max has a fantastic one built in. You can also use .htaccess on shared servers.

Authentication = login system. We use php to do the authentication, not htaccess. That is why you do not see any htaccess files. Go to the main admin screen. See the login dialog? That is authentication. It is the Admin w/access levels mod.

.htaccess is a linux base authentication method. We use a php coded authentication that is more versatile and has more features.

Default

It really is a nice system. I installed it on a vanilla version of oscommerce store, and I just love the features.
