i want to get rid of my 'whats new here' text. I have looked in header.php, index.php, and english.php and cannot find it.

In osCMAx this is changed in the admin, when you actually create the category, you specify what you want there.

I don't see anywhere in admin where i can change that text. I have oscommerce , is it different?

If you have osCommerce 2.2 MS2, yes it is different and you should have posted in the osCommerce forum, not the osCMax forum. Moving to the correct forum.
