Need to add input text field in product attributes

My site's products are personalized, so I need to allow people to enter their name or initials on the products page (before they add to cart). Is there a way to add an input text field somewhere? I checked Wiki and the archives and cannot find an answer. Thanks for any help!

Go to product attributes in the admin and add a text field.

You can also read the instructions in the option type feature in the contributions directory of the main oscmax download.

When I go to product attributes in Admin there are only options to add "Product Options" and "Product Values", which come out to be drop-down menus. I don't see where I can add a text field - that's my problem. Sorry, I'm a newbie here and I can't for the life of me find the contributions directory either. I'm hoping I just have to get my feet wet here. Thanks.

No need to install another one. Option Type Feature is already installed and does exactly what you want.

Select 'text' as the option type in the attributes and it will put in a text field. In the Product Options section, there is a dropdown for option type with the following options : select, text, radio, checkbox. All you have to do is select 'text'

I am thinking that my Product Attributes screen is showing me a level down from where I want to be. When I go into Product Attributes, all I see is
Product Options, then Product Values - those are my only choices. There is no place to select an option type, which I would think would be at a level higher.
Sorry, I'm feeling really stupid here...

No, you are seeing it correctly.

If you see Product Options and Product Values, that is right.

Then just create a new Product Option. I have attached a screenshot of what you need to add, and I have highlighted the option type dropdown in yellow. This is where you select the text box.

Hi Michael,
You won't believe this, but my screen does not show option type. It looks just like your screen but that whole option type column is not there. I only have option name and action.
Maybe I need to reinstall this part of the cart? I must have done something wrong along the way.
I'm willing to start over, this is making me batty.

This means you are not running oscmax v1.7. Most likely you are running standard osCommerce. In that case, you have posted to the wrong forum.

If not, what version of osCmax are you running?

I downloaded what I thought was the latest version, right from the OSCommerce page. My site says it's running osCommerce 2.2-MS2. I don't know the differences but I definitely want the latest version. What should I be looking for to download? Is OSCMax found somewhere else? And do you think I have to start over? THANK YOU!
