Unable to determine page link!

Hacking the template so that when a user clicks on a product row in catalog/product_info.php a dhtml effect occurs and the product info (from catalog/includes/modules/product_listing.php) is displayed beneath (no need for the pop-up window). Basically I am joining the sql from product_listing.php into the page product_info.php. All works apart from the very last bit involving the function tep_href_link(). I get this error:
Unable to determine the page link!
And Yes, Use Search-Engine Safe URLs (still in development) is set to false. Can anyone help?

I'd guess that the tep_href_link would be set to a bookmark on the page - set to the specific location - below.........
