Link colors problem - newbie - pls help

Hi all

I set my link colors in stylesheet.css in osC directory to 993300 for A and A:hover to cc9900. It works fine for the categories box, but for all others it shows a default 0000ff. Any idea why this is hapening? I thought A and A:hover changed the links sitewide and not just for a particular box.
