Creating link without page causes loss of SID

I am trying to add links to my home page that consist of just the url for SE purposes. When OSC creates a link with the tep_href_link function, it adds the SID and everything works fine. But if I create a link I can't add the SID since there is no file name. And if I click on this link after signing in, I end up losing the sid and getting signed out. Does anyone know how to create such a link and keep the correct sid at the same time?
