Default payment processing

Hi,

I'm setting up a website for a small art catalog, and looking at the various payment modules. I'm new to e-commerce at this level and am a little lost. Can anyone explain the differences between using Authorize.net, 2Checkout, etc. or direct me to any general resources regarding gateways, merchant accounts, etc.? What factors should I consider when choosing one of these services?

Thanks
Ben

Hey Ben, it depends on how you want your site to function.

If you choose 2checkout (.com) or Paypal (.com) your users are going to leave your site to enter there credit card information, billling etc. with that company and your account with them. You will not pay anything to have their services but a percentage will be taken off your transaction with that customer.

You may choose to go with many of the other payment module providers and have customers order directly from your URL https://oscommercesite.com/payment_method.php (for example). This looks tighter than having customers goto "paypal.com" in a new window to pay for stuff.

Authorize.net is a leader in online commerce. You can sign-up here for an account with them:

Hope this helps!
Aaron
