    Default Version number?

    Hi there

Sorry I'm brand new to oscmax and I have purchased a site which I think runs it. I only know this because I thought originally it was osc but was looking to update the usps module and the installed one gave me "oscmax" in the files.

    So here I am.

How do I find out which version of oscmax I'm running please?

    Thanks
    JWB

On the admin panel login page it should say at the bottom - Powered by osCmax vX.X - Or you can look in catalog/includes/application_top.php for PROJECT_VERSION. Otherwise, if you post an URL to the site we should be able to tell you fairly easily. Regards.

    Hi

Thanks to the both of you for responding, but application_top.php is ioncube encoded so I can't read anything. In light of that, perhaps a fuller explanation may help.

I purchased a small hosting company with what was touted as a proprietary shopping cart system, however just looking at the admin panel smacked hugely of OSCommerce. I need to get someone to do some work on it to fix some bugs and bring it all up to date, but am being stymied in the attempt to do so.

In looking at the files I saw the reference to oscmax in the USPS and other modules so have come to these forums to try and solve the mystery. I'm thinking now that the person who developed this has taken oscmax and added some touches to it and encoded part of it so that people can't use the carts on another server (it works in with the WHMCS licence add-on and auto provisions copies of it to users' directories).

Right now I'd like to connect with a knowledgeable one or two persons who could:

    a) tell me what it is (I'm now assuming OSCmax)
    b) upgrade it to the latest version of the code and modules if doable
    c) provide coding/support for it on-going when needed.

Thanks in advance. If interested could you please contact me on warwick@bergs.net

    Cheers
    Warwick

    Lightbulb Re: Version number?

Idea: Why not install the latest 'Max 2.5 yourself and compare functionality to that of your "inherited" system? If close, then it's going to be much easier just to extract relevant data from the existing database and install in the new one.

    Hi jwb888,

I think the best place to start is for us to take a look at the catalog (as niallb says) of your store and if possible login to the admin side as well to try and identify which version of osCommerce or osCmax you are running. From there we need to try and work out if the previous owner has installed any bespoke modules.

It is worthy of note that osCmax has come on quite a long way since your store was probably installed and more than likely the functionality of osCmax now more than exceeds your current store.

As far as ongoing maintenance support/database migration - ridexbuilder is probably your best bet as he provides a support based hosting service - I am sure you can work out some form of support contract ex. hosting. (He is on the development team as well - so has a fair idea of what is going on!)

    Regards.

I would say whom every you got the site from may have used there own modified version - and/or - it a old version of OSCMAX. They used IONCUBE to make people think they got a NON-OPEN source eCommerce system and so they ALSO don't break it on the provider - which is the hosting service you purchased.

Short answer is - Contact the person/company - and have them provide you WITH ALL THE NECESSARY FILES and documents that should have been provided on take over. This would include supplier (and developers) as well all software, licenses and related stuff done or is currently in use for the site.

Longer one --- scrap that and build new from fresh source. osCMax - just like another Web Host company that is active here does.... - Not to mention any name like Micheal S!

    Take care!
