Lots of Products all with the same attributes.

I've set up a store that has thousands of items that all share the same attributes. http://regattashots.com/catalog I've had to come up with creative ways to add or change the tens of thousands of attributes that are generated. What I'm looking for but haven't been able to find is a modification that will let me have common set of attributes for all all of my items. Is there a contribution that will do this?

It would be great to have a contribution that would have attribute "groups" so that a product can be assigned to an attribute group and then the attributes would only need to be changed on one product to change them on all.

Also is there anyone out there that may be able to write this kind of modification? I'd be willing to have my customer pay for something like that and then see if I can just GPL it and distribute the code for everyone to share. Is this the proper forum for hiring programmers?
