cannot access admin after adding .htaccess

I tried to password protect the directory & cant get in at all. Uploaded .htaccess & .htpassw using ascii format. when password prompt came, it would never accept password created. then from control panel delete both. Now can get page cannot be displayed on catalod/admin. Was able to access catalog/admin/index.php once

Try redoing the htpassw file with a simple user name/pass and re-upload that and try. Note: both are case senitive.....
