Customize Center Section on Main Page

I have looked and search all over this forum and cannot find much about customizing the Center section Main Page. I want to add some static text or graphics under the Welcome message. What is the best way to do this? I cannot get anything to show up in it...

Thanks I had edited that text before and thought I had tried to add an image to it. but just for sh*ts and grins I tried adding an image and it worked. Now I feel stupid, since I already knew how to edit that text...
