    Default Reset Order Number/ID

Ridexbuilder suggested in a prior post on a related subject that it might be wise not to set the first order ID to #1, but rather start with a higher order sequence beginning with something higher like 500, 501, 502, etc. to build customer confidence.

But where does one set the NEXT order ID that will get used and will this automatically reset the incrementator to begin adding the new orders to that ID number?

    Thanks...
    GEORGE

*bump* I'd like to know too... I was able to find this under Tools > Store Manager in zen.

I've been looking in oscmax, but can't find it. Sorry, I know this post is 2009.. hehe.

I'm selling some gift cards with numbers like 1326 0000 5001 (last four digits increases) 5002, 5003..etc. Thinking about using the order ID to track it.

Sorry, ITF - I haven't had a chance to respond earlier.

pgmarshall provided me the solution to resetting the order id in an earlier post.

I had been looking for a way to reset the whole database - including the order ID to 1 (but based on additional advice I chose a higher starting number in the end). The information regarding resetting just the order id number is in the last few entries of this post. The earlier entries in the post about resetting the whole database are probably not what you want or need to be confused by.

I'm not sure his solution will work with a 12-digit order ID, but it did work for me to reset the whole database and to reset to a 4-digit order number.

There are a number of posts on the subject of changing the order number including: this one that provides some more information.

Good luck - and as I have been advised over and over again by the smarter members of this forum - always backup the database before making any changes... that advice has served me well.

    Hey GPMaina!

Thanks for taking your time for posting the info!!
I ended up using attributes for the card numbers, and writing a small script to reset stock for all the attributes while at the same time renewing the card numbers to new ones the user specifies.
