Default Multiple Catagories and Adding Fields

Hello,
Well, I'm not getting any answers to my questions on the other board , so a friend suggested this one.

I have 2 questions :

1.) Is it possible to place the same product (in our case books) with the same model number in two (2) Catagories WITHOUT using the Copy To button? I guess you would say that I want to do it manually, so that I know that I will be able to do it in Easy Populate. I thought that the only thing I needed to do was to duplicate the line in my Excel db for the book that I am wanting to place into two Catagories and only change the Catagory field...everything else exactly the same. I tried it, but when I purchase the book from one catagory, a copy remains in the other one, so it looks like I have a qty of 2. Does anyone know if this is possible? I can not go one by one after uploading the file with EP and click on that Copy To button..we have well over 20,000 books in our current stock and bring more in all the time.

2.) Is there an easy way to add a few fields to the osC db? I need a Author field mostly, that is searchable, and would like to add a Grade, ISBN ( not the contribution version), Publisher, BookFormat and PublishDate, but if worse comes to worse, I could always add that info to the Description field... the Author field is very important tho.

ANY help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated !
Thank so much,
Lalla

1) You can LINK a product to two or more catagories. ("Copy to" then "LINK PRODUCT") This will only have ONE item but show it in more than one area - modfiy one and it will show up in all other areas also.

Not sure how EP would would work with this.

2) Yes the ISBN contribution SHOW EXACTLY how to add ANY TYPE and number of feilds to the items (just rename them to what you want - like author, grade, format, Publisher, date etc...) Don't "install" the contribution - just use it as a template to add all the feilds you want. The ISBN contribution show how to add the feilds so they are searchable also.

Thanks for responding, but as my post states...I need to know who to how to link them WITHOUT using the Copy To Button. That way I can figure out how to make it work inside EP.

Thanks,
Lalla

Make a "sample" and export in EP. Then view the file and see how it accociate them. Duplicate for any other items you want to do a simular setup with then IMPORT that in to EP.

I have not used EP very much (not had the need - yet). I have use mostly the raw files and MySQL/ODBC linking.
