| Hello, Maybe someone could advise me. I am looking to use oscdox as the basis for a site that registers pets and their owners for chips implants etc. Can anyone suggest where to start? Just need some sort of plan - I guess I need to turn off a few things. I also have an existing site I want to export into it. Thanks Joe |

| Hi, I wouldn't think that OSCommerce is the ideal package for a site like that... but, I would probably set up no categories or products, have a link off a static page to (account) login.php and just use that part of OSC, people could add/modify account details and you could put in extra form fields for pet details and so on. You might need a separate database table (keyed by id tag maybe, with pet type, pet subtype (breed), colour, and any other details related to that pet) to store the pet details, link it by customer_id to the customers table. Cull off a few links to pages other than relevant account pages, make sure you keep the session ids if necessary when linking to any additional pages you make, and that should do the trick.... You could leave the admin side as it is, you should be able to manage the customers and pets from there (you may need a few extra sql queries to pick out the pet details). jon |

| Yes OSC can do what your looking for...however not "out-of-the-box". Install a contribution or two - like: Product Attributes - Option Type Feature http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,160 This contribution specifically adds the ability to display options with text input boxes(Such as PET NAME/ID/TATTO/Medical problems - ie: diabities/arthitice). This allows a store owner to collect customization/personalization information for a product from the end user. osCPro Subscription Engine http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,1795 Creates a reoccurring billing platform (Such as monthly/yearly). You can set up subscription and non-subscription products which can then be checked out in the same shopping cart. Your user checks out and is billed the first term plus a set up fee(if configured to). The script then mails your client a bill before it is due and prepopulates there shopping cart for quick checkout the next time they login. To import your exiting DB will not be easy - not impossable. Use CVS export/import function of your MySQL admin tool (like phpMyAdmin) and use Excel or other database/spreadsheet that supports CVS (Comma Separated Values) format to move/change and update the sample data. Good Luck

| Thanks guys - great ideas I will try to use those contribs - should I use the ms2max version or the standard oscommerce package? As for the keyboard - tea is better than beer. With beer the keyboard is fine it only looks like the letter s is sticking, and the letter a , the letter b, c ,d ,e ......... As for owners getting chips - with my sense of direction - its a must, although my wife reserves the right of implanting it! Thanks all - will give an update of the progress |

A.) Stop drinking liquids near the keyboard. Over by the $10,000+ server array is okay - it's insured. Need a new resume? B.) Use a "virtual" keyboard. It like typing in mid air..... C.) ESP - We already know what your thinking anyway. D.) Get a new keyboard - there cheap! - Infact keep a spair one handy. |

| Ah thanks guys, I have now plugged in a separate keyboard and ordered a new one for the laptop. Back to the topic, after a bit of discussion with jloyzaga I reckon that OSC would indeed be a good solution, either with the "option type feature" mod described above or a product registration mod which I am about to start work on for a current project (although I will check the archives to see if someone's already done this before I start!). As to whether to use the MAX or standard versions, it doesn't really matter for your project I don't think. You probably won't want most of the features on MAX and you will end up with lots of files you'll never use but on the other hand, the BTS template will make modification that bit easier... jon |
