Default Password Protect a Single Category

Hey all! First I am totally new at thisso be kind to me
I am really hoping someone can help me with this because it will save me loads of work (not to mention I have been looking for days!) and I am the new subscriber of websites for dummies books if that says anything!
I am looking for a way to password protect a single category. I would like to have a wholesale category on my main site and protect it so only ppl with the username and password (ie wholesalers) have access to the contents. I have tried the sppc and creating a second store but I am just not that literate to get anywhere. I did find a girl who did this but didn't really go into detail about how. This is what she posted if anyone can explain this alittle better for me!

"I think I got it figured out. What I ended up doing was creating a category named "Wholesale". Then setting up a wholesale password string in languages/english.php. I changed includes/boxes/categories.php to only display the "Wholesale" category if the user's password matches the special wholesale password string I set up in english.php. I also had to bypass encryption of that particular password by modifying password_funcs.php and account_password.php. By using the password instead of user name for displaying the "Wholesale" category, any number of user accounts can access it if I just give them the preselected wholesale password.
It may not be too elegant, but it was fairly simple and is working great."

    Thank you all in advance!
    Tira

    Try looking at this

Basically you could have two stores pointing at the same database - one for your wholesalers and the other for your retail customers.

    Might be worth a look,

All you need to do is install category for groups

Hide products from customer groups for SPPC

Which will do EXACTLY what you want. They have to use the user login and be part of the a certain "group" like "Wholesale" to see items in that category.
