Default Editing the Add To Cart function

I'm working on a modification for a client's osCommerce site and I need to be able to change the price of a product on the fly based on customer input. I can't use basic attributes for this, because the customer is determining the final price of the product. At no time can I display the price as defined by the store due to manufacturer's restrictions. So, what I want to do is send the customer's input to the Add To Cart function, I suppose...then change the price of the product based on that. Maybe there is a way to assign an attribute and define the price dynamically?

Any help is appreciated.

How about using Linda's CALL FOR PRICE mod. This is used for may of the "manufacturer's restrictions" or min listed price or for QUOTE for price.

I've seen it and tried it. This guy is very specific though - that won't do for him. He wants the customer to define the price of the product and only be allowed to check out if the price is above their selling price (which remains hidden on the website at all times). I've already put in place the system for the customer to guess the price, and only allow checkout if the customer's guessed price is above the pre-defined selling price. However, when you go to checkout, the product is priced at that pre-defined price. According to his manufacturer, that constitutes an "advertisement" because it's in print online, therefore he can't do it. However, if the customer provides the price and checks out, the store never declared what the price of the product was so it skirts the restriction.

FYI, I've posted a contribution similar to Linda's Call For Price but with more automation. My package allows you to define a Minimum Advertised Price for each product, displaying the actual selling price only if it's above the MAP. If you price your products below MAP, it provides a link to a page where the customer can send a price quote to himself for that product before checking out. This is all completely automatic without any human intervention needed, and updates the display automatically if change your prices. You can find it on the osCommerce web site under "Click For Price."

If anyone needs this capability, I did manage to get it working. The change was done on a highly modded store and I don't have the time to package everything up nice into a contribution (maybe this summer...) but I'm willing to share my working files if you need.
