Default product numbers

hi,

I need a "product number" (uniform product code, sku, whatever),
for each product which is shared between products of the
same type (blue shirt, white shirt etc.).

the contrib "Add UPC numbers, SKUs, ISBN/ISSN, etc" (#126)
provides this, but the modification-instructions aren't very good and
don't work with 2.2MS2 (I already contacted the author but didn't yet
get a reply)

Do I have to use another version to get this to work? Any other contrib that adds this?

Which contrib does the www.paulharris.com-store use
to get SKU#'s?

thanks a lot,

Hi,
I'm not sure 100% but i think that SKU #13892
Is simply the article name they give and not a mod that let you add it.

And i think you will see the same thing..
Maybe sometimes the easy way is the best

Are you sure? In this product:

If "Tank, Velvet Black" is the Article name (products_name in the
products_description table), and "A soft black velvet tank..."
is the products_description (same table) then the SKU# would
be in products.products_model. Was that what you were suggesting?
(see oscommerce-2.2ms2/tep_database-pr2.2-CVS.pdf for a listing of the
tables)

However, contrib #126 just adds the field products.products_upc
(uniform product code, the product#).
That might be a problem for my shop because the product#
must be shared among different models of a product
(for example for a shirt with a V collar and a round collar; this
can't be done with attributes)

So I think that for this reason it is the wrong
solution to put the product# in products.products_upc
or products.products_model: if you want to modify the
product# in a product, you have to change it in all models
of this product. That alone is not a big problem but
maybe other problems arise, so is there a better solution?

thanks,
