You need to create the /tmp dir in the root of your web server and give it write permissions. That will solve the trouble.

I suggest starting at your root web dir and working your way down to the oscommerce dir, one at a time until it works... You will learn a little about paths this way...

Im having the same problem. Will try the /tmp on the root of the webserver. Howerver, my session.save_path is set to another existing directory and other php applications work fine writting to this directory. Why is osCommerce not using the directory defined in php.ini?

Found out the problem. The error message is the problem, it is misleading us. OSC does not read the session save path from you php.ini You have to go to the admin anc configure it under Configurations > Sessions (the default is /tmp)
