Default Can't get to admin after set up.

Hello,

After setting it all up and being able to get around the catalog okay, I can't get into the admin area.

This is the page after the setup with the messages on it and then what happens after I touch the admin button.

http://localhost/catalog/install/install.php?step=5
I touched admin buttonto this address

http://localhost/catalog/admin/index.php
and got a 404

My admin dir with the index.php in it is actually in the /www/admin/ dir so don't know why it looks in the catalog dir.

I am following the great instructs but obviously left something altho can't see what! (Until you point it out I guess)!

New Install

Step 2: osCommerce Configuration

Warning: fopen("c:/phpdev/www/catalog/admin/includes/configure.php", "w") - No such file or directory in c:\phpdev\www\catalog\install\templates\pages\inst all_5.php on line 164

Warning: fputs(): supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in c:\phpdev\www\catalog\install\templates\pages\inst all_5.php on line 165

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in c:\phpdev\www\catalog\install\templates\pages\inst all_5.php on line 166

The configuration was successful!

Then hilited at the opt of the catalog page. (I am still trying to work out how to set perms in an Apache shell on a XP unit - It's a desktop and just a test so no lurkers) is this.....

Warning Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: c:/phpdev/www/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file.

Thanks

Your time is really appreciated!

Default Got it!!

Oh my this learning business - will it ever end!

Well I found out why I was getting all those errors and couldn't find dirs...

Why you ask??

Because I didn't change the insert boxes to where the dirs actually were in the install.

For those doing this for the first time..

Look at every insert box and read it carefully! I read it okay but didn't quite get it.
The dirs are NOT necessarily in the dirs that are shown in the insert box. You have to change them.

Now I know!! Well, up to this anyway!!

Still not sure how to fix permissions in XP.

I find the biggest "Newbie" error is assuming everything is automatically correct. Once you get over that one, things go a lot more smoothly. Glad you figured it out on your own.

Next, to get rid of the "writable configure.php" error on XP, just open up Windows Explorer, select your configure.php, right click the file, and select "properties" in the context menu. In the dialog box, look at the bottom and check the "Read Only" box. That will fix the error.
