| I'm hoping someone will be able to help me! I'm new to osCommerce, having decided to switch from Miva. OK, I've made it to Step 5, changed my permissions (but have not htaccessed yet to password protect). I have not seen the 'Congratulations! Now you are really done!" message either. When I click on Admin, I get the following message: "Unable to connect to database server!" I am totally stuck at this point being a 100% bonafide newbie to this program. (It's in Step 2) Also, what does this mean: "The file to import must be located and named at: /home/.sites/13/site245/web/catalog/install/oscommerce.sql" Many thanks! Anne |

| Anne, it sounds like your sql file isn't where it should be. Check your catalog/install/ directory for the oscommerce.sql file and make sure it was uploaded into your install directory on your server. I assume your server path is home/.sites/13/site245/web/ and that is where you uploaded your catalog files and folders. Also did you allow time for the database to be set up on your server and input the mysql information correctly when prompted during the installation? Other than that you may have to wait for Micheal to respond.

| Hi, Nootkan! Thank-you for your reply. Can you tell me why I am seeing this message after the test connection was made: "The file to import must be located and named at: /home/.sites/13/site245/web/catalog/catalog/install/oscommerce.sql" This is not my server path at all! I uploaded my catalog files/folders to the IP number for my database server as provided by my web host. I did not have to set up a database on the server as one was created for me by the web host. | Anne, being a newbie myself I can only assume that the test connection was unsuccessful because somewhere along the line the install is trying to find the /home/.sites/13/site245/web/catalog/install/oscommerce.sql where it has been told the sql file resides. You must have put some wrong info in the previous steps where it asked for your database info. If you don't hear from Micheal soon, you may want to delete everything and do a clean ftp of all the files to your server and install again to see if you missed something in your initial setup. Usually Micheal is pretty good at responding to posts, so I have to assume he is very busy. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

| Found the problem! I did a total wipe of my website and then a fresh installation. Everything is working fine now. Anne |
