Default installation by eDataRack

hey,

I'm not sure if this is in the right forum so feel free to move it if need be.

I host my site with a company called eDataRack & they have an option to 'auto install' oscommerce 2.2 - although I fill out a few details but mostly naming issues. Anyway I'm a bit confused about something, a warning that this might seem a rather stupid question to many, but how do i get my visitors to access my site directly? I.E. at the moment i have to enter url http://www.mysite.com/oscommerce but I want it to be just http://www.mysite.com.

Pls help.

I would suggest you install it your self then - it is not hard..... Everthing in /catalog (or as your host did was /oscommerce) move down to the HOME directory....

If you have an existing SITE there already - I would use the default directory for setting up your site and for testing first....

OR you can make a LINK to take people to your shopping cart - or have an auto update link that take you to the shopping site (ie: Taking you to our site in five seconds. If it does not load click here...)

OR can be setup by your host to automatically redirect to your sub directory....

When/IF you want to MOVE it to you HOME directory...

First: BACKUP your WHOLE site (including the database(s) you have)

Second: CHANGE BOTH configure.php files (catalog & admin) - edit lines with "/catalog" to "" . Make these read only/chmod 766 or 666

Third: move all files/directories from /catalog to your HOME.

Forth: if you don't have MAX - protect your ADMIN using .HTACCESS (unix standard directory/file access protection)

Said ALL that - if you want more than plain OSC - try osCMax - has ADMIN login with USER levels (don't need to setup .htaccess).

Good Luck!

I'm a bit confused; please bear with me as I'm somewhat of a beginner.

I downloaded MS2-MAX v1.7.0. I have installed and configured it following the installation guide & all seems well. My first question, what’s the difference between this one & the one I had osCommerce 2.2? Should I use osCommerce 2.2 instead?

If I give you a brief description of what I’m aiming for than maybe you can help me out a bit better.

I want to have a website, with normal pages (e.g. home, about us, newsletter signup, contact us) as well as to have an online catalogue to sell audio cd’s, books and other similar products. Now, I was initially searching for a cheap, reliable & easy to use credit card merchant so I ended up choosing 2checkout.com – which is what led me to osCommerce in the first place because they said that it is one of the 3rd party shopping carts that their service is compatible with – you still with me?

Can you offer any suggestions, instructions ANY wisdom at all that will help me out? Especially concerning the 2checkout.com compatibility issue, what do they mean? Please any help will be greatly appreciated!

Final question; when I go to my site, www.mysite.com at the top of the page I have ‘Switch template: AAbox CSS OneTable Closed osC Current template directory: templates/aabox/’ Which template should I use & how do I change it?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

NOTE: 2checkout says it compatible with osCommerce 2.2, does that include the MAX one as well?
