Does osCommerce require a CGI version of PHP?

Also, does anyone know how to enable register_globals in php.ini ?

I downloaded a new MacOSX version of PHP and when going back to my server this happened:

FATAL ERROR: register_globals is disabled in php.ini, please enable it!

To enable register_globals, open php.ini in a text editor, find the register_globals line and set it to on. Save it and restart your webserver.

osCommerce does not require a cgi version of php

Problem is that the version I got it from doesn't apparantly have php.ini and although I found php.ini under usr/local/lib/php.ini I can't seem to open it properly - or it seems to be empty of code!
