Default Getting 404 error when trying to view products

Hi,
I'm getting a 404 error when I try to link to my products from my catalog page. Couple weird things to mention - I previously had the vanilla version of oscommerce and then deleted all the files on my web server and re-uploaded and installed oscmax. So I don't know if that screwed something up. Also, my images were showing up fine on my catalog page but I haven't touched anything and now my catalog definitions says "image does not exist" for all my images. Help!
Beth

In the admin, try turning of Search Engine Safe urls under 'configuration'

OSC-MAX and the "vanilla" version of OSC use different database schemas. if all you did was delete the vanilla files and upload the max files your likely to have all kinds of problems.

well, i am starting over AGAIN. i deleted my database, deleted all my oscmax files on my server and reinstalled, started all over again. new database connected ok.
when i view my catalog, the page margins are all screwy, and, the basic graphic files show the x's - they can't be seen. i also see x's where graphics should be while in the admin tool, like the flags are missing when trying to add products. what do i need to do to get this thing restarted? Can anyone help me here? Thanks...

By the way, I did try turning off Search Engine Safe urls under 'configuration' - that eliminated the 404 error, but now the product view actually shows up on top of the index page. This is so screwed up, I want to start over again, but that doesn't seem to work either. The vanilla version install was SO EASY! If you want to see how truly screwed up you can get, see my url http://www.heartonyourwrist.com/catalog/index.php
and click on the bracelet on the left side. You can see that my categories don't show either, even though I have some.

both installs are SUPER easy. broken images site wide would point me to a bad define statement for a path somewhere.

I bet your FTP upload is screwing up and leaving files out. Try re-uploading the images directory.

Michael, I told you that checker thing would come in handy! Only kidding.

The broken images (from my hard learned lessons) is not a bad install, but rather ftp'ing the image and php files all under binary (or acsii). Can't remember which one, as I think doing it in either causes that. Make sure you don't load the php and image files using the same protocol (if that's the right word).

Normally, using automatic (if it's defined correctly in your ftp program setup) will do it the right way.

Thank you for all the ideas. None of them have worked, however. It does seem to be a path issue, maybe I will just manually check a few of the paths to see what's broken. It's weird because I haven't done anything yet - it's a brand new install - all I did was change permissions to 777, I turned off the safe URL, and I added one product to see if I could see it on the catalog page. Strangely, the product page is accessible if I'm using the OsC template, but not the AABox template. But all the standard images are x's in both. I'll post again if I figure it out. I might try to delete EVERYTHING again and install again?? Not sure yet. Thanks again!
