Default Installation probems with chmod

I'm very new to all this, but I'm trying to install osc and I get this error on the last step

>>New Installation

osCommerce Configuration

The following error has occurred:

The configuration files do not exist, or permission levels are not set.

Please perform the following actions:

* cd /home/adorable/public_html/catalog/includes/
* touch configure.php
* chmod 706 configure.php

* cd /home/adorable/public_html/catalog/admin/includes/
* touch configure.php
* chmod 706 configure.php

If chmod 706 does not work, please try chmod 777.

If you are running this installation procedure under a Microsoft Windows environment, try renaming the existing configuration file so a new file can be created.<<

I already set the chmod to 777, but it doesn't work. I talked to my host and they said everything was working on their end. I don't know what to do...

You sure you changed the permissions on the right files? I've changed configuration.php by mistake a few times, when it's configure.php in 2 places.

Do the 2 configure.php files show 777 properties? or something else?

That didn't help for me... /catalog/includes/configure.php keeps giving me permission denied.

:S I'm going crazy here!
