installation of oscommerce, can't add to cart

I have installed oscommerce on my server, (host provided it). I can add to cart just fine, but when I checkout, the cart responds that it is empty. Then, when I go back to the product and add again, it will show 2. Has anyone had this problem before?

Check your settings for cookie usage.

You cannot force cookies if you are using a shared ssl such as https://yourdomain.yourhostingcompany.com

If you are using a subdomain for your secure cart you must turn force cookies to off.
