    Default Shared SSL Help

Hello forum. As you can guess, Im new to OS commerce and like many others (by doing the search) I am having problems with Shared SSL.

Im using Version 2.2 and when I install it, it seems fine. With-in install, I enable SSL and set my https server to point to my shared ssl space (https://secure.myhost.com/~myname)

Oscommerce and the admin section run fine, however, upon checkout, I get the "Page not found" error. I have read many posts regarding this, but have yet to come up with a definitive answer. Do I need to upload the oscommerce to my secure webspace? I have looked at a few URL's in here and they seem to do what I want. Do I still need to make changes to configure.php, even when I have used the "Install" ?

    Many thanks

    Hi,

Do you have all your files in two places, one set on your domain and one set on your ssl space?
    Sincerely,
    Melinda

Currently, all the files (admin & catalog) are on my normal http webspace and there is nothing in the https: shared webspace. I did try to upload the payment files to the shared ssl space (catlog_payment.php.....etc), but again, this did not work.

    Any Ideas?

    Hi,

I read on the other forum a while back that ALL the files need to be in both places for it to work right.

    You might try that.

On a server panel I was trying out I remember I had to make a symbolic link so the https would point to my main file which is much easier than uploading 2 sets of files.

Is your domain and https on the same server?

You can get a free ssl cert from one company for 3 months and from another company for 1 month and to buy from instantssl.com it is only $49 per year. Why not get your own ssl cert?
    Sincerely,
    Melinda

Thanks for the reply. Yes, my domain and the sharred ssl are on the same server. Regarding having files on both http &https, I have read threads that say you don't, yet other threads that says you do, hence my confusion!! Im prety sure the https (secure) space will need to have some files in there, or how would it find the payment pages upon checkout?

Im still as confused as ever

    Hi,

If your http and https is on the same server then just make a symbolic link from the https to the http and you will be fine.

If you don't know how then ask your server people to do it...takes about 2 minutes.

What server admin do you use on your server? Is it plesk?
    Sincerely,
    Melinda

    Hi,

Yes, plesk was one that I was testing but it doesn't work too good with the stores in my opinion.

I have cpanel and it works great.

If I remember correctly to get ssl to work first I had to make a symbolic link to point https to http. Once that was done it started working but had another type of error which may not be there now.

I had to go into httpd.conf and comment out # 2 places on everyone's account that had a store and ssl. If I saw the code again I could figure it out. Seems like it had something to do with php.ini not parsing or something like that.

Is this your own server or are you hosting with someone?
    Sincerely,
    Melinda

Thanks for the reply again. This is being tested/ hosted on a hosts server and not our own, but we will soon be getting our own servers. Sounds like CPanel is better suited to the job.

I tested my stores on plesk and ensim while I had cpanel.

    Plesk frustrated me totally.

    Ensim...well don't even go there!

There are new themes now for cpanel and one is called Xskin which is excellent on the appearance.

In my opinion these stores work best on cpanel if you don't know anything about programming so that is why I like them!
    Sincerely,
    Melinda
