Install error--no configure, includes?

HI,

I am new to this site and this is my first post,
I am trying to install osCommerce and it spits out the following error message:

The configuration files do not exist, or permission levels are not set.
Please perform the following actions:

* cd /home2/homeschooltradin/www/catalog/includes/
* touch configure.php
* chmod 706 configure.php

* cd /home2/homeschooltradin/www/catalog/admin/includes/
* touch configure.php
* chmod 706 configure.php



If chmod 706 does not work, please try chmod 777.

If you are running this installation procedure under a Microsoft Windows environment, try renaming the existing configuration file so a new file can be created.


What does this mean and how do I solve it? thanks,

Well, just do as the message says.

Go to the files in the directories specified and carry out the commands as directed. You permissions are not allowing the installer to write to the config files.

Hi, thanks for replying. I did as you suggested, set the whole includes folder to chmod 706 and then when that didn't work to 777, and the same for the configure.php file (706, then 777) still no luck. I don't understand what the "cd" is doing in front of /home2/etc., and the word "touch" before configure.php

That is not what the message says. The message says to set the conigure.php file to writable - chmod 777, not to chmod the dir to 777.

'touch' and 'cd' are linux commands that you use in an SSH or TELNET session.

cd - change dir

touch - Update the access and modification times of each FILE to the current time

If you are using FTP to CHMOD, then just go to the file /includes/configure.php and chmod it 777. Do the same for admin/includes/configure.php
