Default Page 13 - securing installation question ?

Can someone advise how to do the following on Win2K ?

1. Set restrictive file and directory permission ...>
/admin/includes chmod 755 don't know how ?
/catalog/includes chmod 755 don't know how ?
/admin/includes/configure.php chmod 644
/catalog/includes/configure.php chmod 644
/catalog/images chmod 777

2. Insert the blank index.html file in all critical directories....>
can you tell me which or what directories should I insert it ?

3. Protect your admin directory with .htaccess ....>
I totally don't know how ?

4. Make sure you define default.php in your directory index listing in httpd.conf ?

thanks and regards,
Herman

On win2k, you have a whole different set of procedures. If you are using Apache as your webserver, most of your q's have already been answered on this board. Do a search for permissions, and search for .htaccess on this board and the old forum archive and you will find answers to 1 and 4.

3. Look up .htaccess tutorial on google and you will find instructions for directory protection with .htaccess

2. Put a blank index.htm page in any dir that you dont want people to see the directory structure and file listings. That should be pretty much every dir that doesnt have an index page. There is also a way to set this in .htaccess, but I don't know how.

If you are using IIS as your webserver, everything is different, but can be done. Not exactly sure on the procedures.
