Default Installation problems and some feedback

Hello Oscommerce Team,

I have 4 questions and a suggestion.

When changing the admin folders name then I automatically get this warnings during the installation. It would be nice to mention in the installation guide that you also need to change this settings in the appropriate files (and please list them up).

--------------

New Installation

osCommerce Configuration

Warning: fopen(/srv/www/htdocs/oscommerce/admin/includes/configure.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /srv/www/htdocs/oscommerce/install/templates/pages/install_7.php on line 259

Warning: fputs(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /srv/www/htdocs/oscommerce/install/templates/pages/install_7.php on line 260

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /srv/www/htdocs/oscommerce/install/templates/pages/install_7.php on line 261

The configuration was successful!

---------------

1) After receiving this screen during the installation and making the necessary changes in the install_7.php is the installation working or does it mean it stopped in the middle. (I read what it says on the screen, but I want to double check that )

2) The link to the administration page does obviously not work with custom named admin folders.

Is that a problem for the operation ( assuming I know under which address I can access the real admin page) ?

3) Where do you store the information needed for the database connection ?

When trying to access the admin page then I get this :

Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user: 'mysql@localhost' (Using password: NO) in /srv/www/htdocs/oscommerce/osc_config/includes/functions/database.php on line 19
Unable to connect to database server!

Which is using the wrong parameters.

Sorry for the beginner questions. I am sure most of my questions are solved quickly when knowing the product a bit better.

4) Do you know by any chance if Oscommerce and the Xoops module version of it, is compatible ?

can I install the normal Oscommerce plugins and use it with the Xoops Oscommerce module ?

Best regards

valentin_nils, I think you are complicating things unnecessarily. Why not just complete a standard installation without any modification. Get it working properly, THEN change the admin folder name. This way, no hacking of the install files, and you only have to edit one file : admin/includes/configure.php

Hi there,

Nice idea.

However, as a newcomer I just tried to follow the instructions from the INSTALL file closely and the first thing that is mentioned is "Rename the orginal admin folder into a secret foldername". - that was before the installation.

Zitat: "...Do the same for the 'admin' directory but rename the directory to a unique and secret name. This directory does not have to reside inside the catalog directory, though may need to be manually configured. ..."

Best regards

We did not write that install file, that was written by the osCommerce guys. I would use the OSCdox guide and the install script. It is easy and faster. The problem is there are many different ways to install osCommerce. I would stick with the OSCdox method, as it is geared toward beginners...
