Default shipping weight acting strange

I am setting up my oscommerce system and I am having trouble with the shipping weights. Every item comes up with a weight of 20lbs. What I see in the ups module is 1x20lbs. I have looked everywhere in my system and I cannot find any reference to weight measurements like (lbs, ounces, etc.) Any guidance here would be appreciated.

Default RE: shipping weight acting strange

On EACH product (look in the admin) is a PRODUCT WEIGHT (at the bottom of the item edit screen)....Now it don't say LBS grams, oz, KG or nickles.... Most shipping modules expect this to be lbs (like UPS - cause that is what they need/use). BUT you can use any termonology you want....

However MOST modules expect this to be LBS and you can enter the amount as the CUBIC weight (like UPS like to calculate as) or any denomination you want. UPS, if I remembered correctly, calculates cubic weight as a MIN of 10lbs per cubic foot (ie: 12x12x12inches = 1728 = 1 cu foot - must be shipped as 10 lbs or if it does weight more then use the HIGHER weight....)

Measure the outer most dimentions of the item AS IT WOULD BE PACKAGED with any WRAPINGS/BUBBLE/FOAM plus the OUTER BOX. H X W X D then devide by 1728 - gives your CUBIC FEET - TIMES that by 10 LBS - gives the CUBIC WEIGHT and if your item (when packed) weighs LESS than this amout then you have to use the CUBIC WEIGHT. I tend to add 1 or 2 pounds EXTRA - just in case and to cover a bit of the "package & handling" costs....
