Default HELP with site down

My site was working great this morning. This afternoon when I try to get to the site or admin I get this message

FATAL ERROR: register_globals is disabled in php.ini, please enable it!

I made no changes to the site this morning. first what would cause this so suddenly and what to do to fix it?

Thank you in advance

Michael

Thank you for your response. This is the code(below) I used that worked however I was told that registering globals presents a security risk. Is that true?

php_value register_globals 1

Yes a small risk, but merely having a website presents a much greater security risk. osCMax and osCommerce will not run without it turned on.
