Default TEMPLATE INSTALL ISSUE --> Illegal Template Directory

ERROR = Illegal Template Directory! when attempting to view store front.

First, I have a fresh download, fresh install.

*******
Support Requested @ Template HelpDesk and waited for nothing...
HelpDesk instructed me to do what I had already done...I don't need canned instruction...I need genuine assistance.

********

I have reinstalled osCMax (latest version) three times, attempting to catch a miss-step on my part--and I cannot.

1.
I put the template_source files (not the folder template_source, but its contents - images, includes, templates) into "install" folder.

2.
Storefront works until I change template name:
Admin --> Configuration --> My Store --> Default Template Directory

Error = "Illegal template directory!"

I have been methodical and meticulous (redundant perhaps, but wishing to make my point).

Can anyone help????

From your description, your error is where you are putting the template files.

1. Create a new directory under your templates directory, called my_custom

2. Upload your new main_page.tpl.php file, any css files and content and boxes directories into the my_custom directory.

3. Set the default template in Admin >> Configuration >> Default Template Directory to my_custom.

Done.

Now I am really confused.

***
MICHAEL S. WROTE:
"1. Create a new directory under your templates directory, called my_custom

2. Upload your new main_page.tpl.php file, any css files and content and boxes directories into the my_custom directory.

3. Set the default template in Admin >> Configuration >> Default Template Directory to my_custom.

Done. "

***
Are the above steps in lieu of what I have already done or "the final steps to completing the process?"

I know I sound like an idiot -- but I want to be absolutely clear...

Create directory where exactly ???:

/catalog/templates/my_custom/
or
/catalog/install/templates/my_custom/

Why did the instructions leave this out?

I have no idea about the instructions. You will need to contact the makers of the template.

Here is how all templates are installed in osCMax :

1. Create /catalog/templates/my_custom/
2. Upload the files on your computer that are in the templates directory to the my_custom directory. There should be a main_page.tpl.php file a css file or two and a couple of subdirectories named boxes and content. All these go into the new my_custom folder on your server.

Then follow the rest of my previous instructions from my first reply.

well i just looked at this ..
you can in the admin choose the template directory were the template is stored
See the examples in Oscmax2 : aabox - Closed- CSS-fluid-1 ( on this one i try to do make some modifications .. see my first post ) - fallback etc
( you can add a new (template)directory for instance with dreamweaver to the catalog(OSCMAX2) were the templates directories are

And it seems that it is also possible to get the new storefront ( = template ) via your URL by adding something extra at the end of the URL what opens your store

How this exactly work i have still to figure out
